A Solo Exhibition

Artist Talk and Opening Reception Nov 21, 2020 from 3 to 4 PM PST Zoom link and password here

From the historic neon signs of Las Vegas to contemporary advertising, Neon art has mostly been considered a commercial craft. Artists have used pre-made Neon signs in their work for years. Recently, Neon artists are coming into their own, experimenting with the science behind neon, the properties of the tubing and neon’s conceptual nature to create intriguing and powerful works of art that are political, ethereal, emotional and literal.

Linda Sue Price creates mixed media neon sculpture. Using abstract shapes and textures, she focuses on the human condition and how people make sense of the world. Her work combines the reality of the medium (the bending of neon tubes) with the challenges of the imagery (the curving, abstract forms).
The process that connects these relationships represents the mental process Price is interested in, a visual manifestation of a system of thought. While inspired by artists Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, Laddie John Dill and Judy Chicago, Price also is influenced by elements of historic neon signs, abstract expressionism, pop art and graphic design.

When the pandemic hit and the galleries closed, Shoebox Projects went online to be able to share the work of their artists. In Price’s first online solo exhibition with the gallery, she presents her work as video in order to offer a new way of looking at the beading and flowing gases that move through the tubes.
